We want to hear from you and answer all of your questions so you are completely comfortable with using our waxes and services. In this round of Frequently Asked Questions, we talk about hard wax, soft wax, duos, and wax warmers.

Here are your top questions this month...

What wax is the right wax for me - hard waxes or soft waxes?

This all depends on your preferred technique, client requests, and overall operation. Knowing how to work with each wax in its own way is key. Soft wax and hard wax serve the same purpose (to remove hair), but in slightly different ways.

Soft wax requires a very thin application paired with cloth (muslin) removal strips. It’s a bit stronger on the pull since soft wax adheres to both the hair and skin.

Hard wax, on the other hand, is applied with a minimum thickness of a nickel, and no strips are required for removal. This wax doesn’t adhere to the skin, only the hair, making it a bit more comfortable in terms of the overall waxing experience. It’s ideal to have both on hand to be able to tackle all hair types, skin types, and body areas.

Which hard or soft wax duo fits my needs?

When you consider your clientele and their needs you’ll know what formulas work best for them. Take a closer look at the unique attributes each wax offers the skin.

    1. If you are all Natural, this hard/soft wax duo offers beeswax which is a natural antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. It also contains Glyceryl Rosinate, a plant-derived ingredient that acts as a skin conditioner.Starpil Natural Honey
    2. Feeling the Blues? This wax duo offers a key ingredient in neutralizing free-radicals and preventing sun damage caused by exposure. Called blue azulene, it helps calm a wide variety of skin conditions and irritations.
    3. Prefer to be pretty in Pink? This wax duo offers the presence of titanium dioxide, a mineral from the earth that protects the skin from UVB and UVA radiation. Because it's gentle, titanium dioxide is a great sunscreen active for sensitive, redness-prone skin. These formulas also contain paraffin, a natural emollient that helps make skin supple and soft.
    4. Finally, our most-loved Starsoft hypoallergenic wax! This hard/soft duo is the top two and not two for these reasons. It’s hypoallergenic, meaning even the most sensitive of skin types will avoid irritation with this gentle wax. It’s pine-rosin, paraben, preservative, fragrance, and colorant FREE. Not to mention it is a clear wax, so you have full visibility of where you lay your wax strip.

Can the hard wax dual warmer be used for both soft and hard wax?

This is the top question on everyone’s mind and the answer is YES! You can absolutely use your Pro Dual Hard Wax Warmer, or your Pro Dual Soft Wax Warmer to heat both stripless and strip wax formulas on either side. Pop your loose hard wax on one side, and place your soft wax can directly into the other side.

What’s the difference between the soft dual and hard dual wax warmers?

Here’s the breakdown…

The Dual Professional Hard Wax Warmer is meant for hard wax! It comes with removable tins to easily replace your wax, or clean-up your wax warmer. You can also use your warmer with or without the tins. Remember if you go tin-free, you’ll have to clean the warmer well. This warmer does not fit the soft wax cans snugly since the wells are sized differently so your soft wax might have to take some extra time to heat evenly with this method!

The Dual Professional Soft Wax Warmer is specially designed to heat soft wax in their cans. The warmer wells are snugly fit to the sizes of our wax cans to distribute heat evenly and quickly. They don’t come with removable tins so if you’re looking to heat hard wax in one of the wells, keep in mind you’ll have to clean the well itself.

Can I heat my soft wax directly in the can?

Yes! Our soft waxes and soft wax warmers are designed to safely and properly heat the wax inside the can. Just put it directly into your warmer and get down to business! This is ideal when interchanging between soft and hard waxes during a service. Have you tried our newest wax blends? Use Black Film hard wax with Pink soft wax for the perfect balance of flexibility and creaminess to breeze through large and small areas.
